It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Stewart George Gray, in Ottawa on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the age of 35.

Loving husband of Cori Fenwick. Son of Gordon and Jerry Gray. Brother of Casey Gray (Phil D’Amour). Son-in-law of Paul and Deborah Fenwick. Uncle to Dayton, Willow, Autumn, Levi, Jordan and Vivienne. Brother-in-law of Zack (Monica).  Grandson of Granny Gray and grandson-in-law to Vera Bakonyi. A beloved cousin and friend to all on both sides.

Stewart is leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness and left his mark on every single person he encountered whether it was a one-time meeting or a lifetime of friendship.

Born on August 15, 1989, in Montreal, Quebec, he grew up with passion and a zest for life and adventure with dreams to travel the world. He was known for his love of Food, friends, animals, music and his beloved Montreal Canadiens.

Stewart met the love of his life, Cori, in Toronto in 2017. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, shared adventures, unwavering support for one another, and the deepest love they could have ever imagined for themselves.

His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends while gathering for meaningful conversations.

Family and friends are invited to A Funeral Mass at Notre Dame Cathedral (385 Sussex Drive, Ottawa), on Friday, January 10th, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to CAMH. We invite those who are unable to attend in person to please attend via livestream

Stewart will forever be remembered as a vibrant soul with the biggest smile, whose energy and warmth brightened every room he entered. His memory will live on in the in all of us for eternity. Stew would want us to live our lives to the fullest in his honour and let’s do him proud.

My heart hurts hearing of Stewart's passing. As his professor, I was lucky to have such a bright, engaging student. He went to Porvoo, Finland to present a joint research project and I was so proud. My condolences to all his family. He will be missed.

Writing this feels surreal, as the loss of Stu is too heavy to comprehend or accept.

Through Cori, I was fortunate to form a personal connection and friendship with Stu.

At our many family gatherings, I almost always found myself seated right next to Cori and Stu. We’d spend the evening yapping away, laughing, and exchanging witty banter the entire time. In fact, there was never a moment when the three of us weren’t sharing a laugh. It was always so easy and fun with Stu, and his connection with Cori was truly extraordinary.

Stu, as I write these words, I speak them from my soul to yours. Our family gatherings will never be the same without you, but in our hearts, you will always have a spot at the table.

I’ll never forget a time, when Stu and Cori were still dating, and I was lucky enough to be invited to their condo for dinner. I had no idea that Stu was a trained culinary genius, but I quickly realized it as each dish of the 100-course meal appeared. The dishes were even “played (aka had fancy decorative dots made of sauce around the border of the plate). Stu was so gracious, and I remember him lighting up from within as he presented the dishes in an effortless and nonchalant manner.

Being a guest of Stu’s was always a treat, but being his friend over the years truly takes the cake.

To Cori, Jerry, Gordon, and all of Stu’s family, I extend my deepest condolences for your—our—loss. May you find even a small measure of solace in the joy and laughter Stu brought to all of us. I’m sending you all my love as you navigate this unimaginable time.

With all my heart,
Jessica Levitan
