I last saw Sanjeev in 2016, but I knew him for many years, and he never strayed far from my heart. I will always remember his willingness to mentor people and, more than that, his selfless nature through which he gave so much of his time and care to so many in the CAF community. You will be missed, brother.

Dear Ritika and family, please accept my heartfelt condolences from my family to yours, for your loss. It was never dull soldiering with Sanjeev in those early days and I am grateful for having known him and for being able to call him a friend. For some reason, he was the only person to ever shorten my name to “Mogs” and I appreciated it.

Ritika, Nikhil, Hrithik, and Family

I dearly wanted to personally attend the Service for a Comrade, distant Friend, and Fellow Cameron. Unfortunately, I am now in that “Susceptible Demographic”, and must now allow prudence and Public Health Measures, be my guide.

When I first met Sanjeev, I was a Sergeant Major, and he was a bright eyed carefree young Soldier in the Camerons. I have served with thousands or Troops, most of whom pass through the Regiment, in what seems like a blink-of-the-Eye. Some stand out, and are always remembered, regardless of time and distance. Sanjeev was one of that treasured group. I have followed his Career and Family over the years, as he came and went, and progressed from the Reserve to the Regular Infantry, and transitioned to Intelligence.

All of our Front-Line Responders, Military, Police, Fire, Paramedic and Medical Community, are called upon to respond without question to see and do things that most people don’t know about, and don’t really want to know about. Some are called upon too often.

Those, who are at their core good and compassionate people, are often those that are most affected, and cannot shake those experiences, suffering internally during the dark period of their lives.

I would ask Ritika and the Boys to remember sunnier times, and the inner goodness of their Husband and Father, who so loved his Family.

Sanjeev gave his life on my Birthday, and it will be one of those indelible memories every year from now on.

ADVANCE
