With great sadness, the Thorhauge clan announces the passing of its patriarch on June 20, 2025. A lifelong friend to many and a respected pillar of numerous communities, Rolf passed away at home at the age of 84 after a courageous battle with cancer. Rolf is survived by his adoring wife and life companion for over six decades, Charlene, plus their four boys Ralph (Leslie), Greg (Tina), Mike (Sarah) and Doug (Debbie). Rolf was known for his big heart and will be fondly remembered by 11 Grandchildren Casey (Peter), Meghan, Sydney, Ryan (Patti), Alena (David), Tara (Justin), Liam, Jack, Isabel, Scott, Matthew (Rayne), Step-Grandchildren Matthias, Maia and Great-Grandson, Henry. Rolf cultivated personal relationships when hosting countless social get-togethers with Charlene and was generous with guests through sharing his appreciation of many finer things in life including his love for art & music, food & wine, sports & entertainment plus current events & historical facts. Rolf had a passion for building "Rolf's Wine Cellars" and always enjoyed a funny story (or two)! Rolf’s professional life was guided by “Maintiens Le Droit” and fulfilled by his mission to promote integrity via “A safe, secure and prosperous Canada, through trusted intelligence and advice”. The family wishes to thank Rolf’s medical teams of The Ottawa Hospital for providing such excellent care - we’re all so grateful for extra time with him. Extended family & friends are invited to celebrate Rolf’s magnificent life at the Beechwood RCMP National Memorial Cemetery (280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa) on Thursday July 10, 2025 (visitation 1:00-2:40pm; service/speeches 2:40-3:40pm; graveside ceremony 4pm). In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in Rolf’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Carefor Health & Community Services.
