It is with a breaking heart that I announce the sudden passing of my dearest wife, Margaret Lee, my partner and soulmate of 44 years.
Margaret passed away on Monday, March 21 at the Ottawa General Hospital from septic shock due to complications with a burst appendix. She is survived by her loving husband, Louis Lee, her daughter Doris and her husband (Jon), her mother Wei Fong, her sister Wendy and her family (Daniel, Toby, Ying, Priscilla, and Micah), her brother Allan and his wife (Jessica), and her sister Sandy.
She was born in Hong Kong, and came to Canada for college, where we were destined to meet. We were married in Ottawa in 1983. She enjoyed travelling, particularly on cruises to such exotic places as Jamaica, China, Iceland, Italy, Hawaii, and Alaska. In her retirement, she taught herself how to play the piano, and even started giving piano lessons to her sister Wendy over video during the pandemic.
She lived a happy, healthy, and fulfilled life, which makes her sudden passing all the more heartbreaking. She was a loving wife and mother, and a kind and generous friend to many.

I knew Margaret forty years ago when I met Wendy ( Margaret‘s sister ) in Toronto. She was a lovely and caring person and always looking after her siblings. I still could remember when she was FaceTime with Wendy and gave piano lesson to Wendy just a week ago. It is totally a shock to me. My family and myself miss her so much.

Margaret was such a kind and friendly person. When we first met her at the friends’ BBQ party at Britannia beach, she warmly approached and sat beside us. She introduced herself, and also shared with us some stories of Louis and Dories. Immediately we felt close and established our friendship. Since then, she had been so sweet and thoughtful to us.
Margaret impressed us with her positive attitude. She was a delight to be around.
Saying goodbye this soon feels wrong. So instead, we’ll just say “We love you, Margaret!” and know you are with us always.

Words cannot express how sorry we are for your loss. Auntie Margaret will always have a special place in our hearts. The earliest memory I have of her was when she babysat for Merrick and me when we were little. I remember playing in the family room while she sat by the fireplace smiling and laughing with us. Her presence was always so warm and comforting. I remember sleepovers with Doris and feeling like your family was an extension of our family.
Over the years, we saw less of each other but I always looked forward to seeing her at gatherings and would always ask my parents of Auntie Margaret was going to be there.
Brian has also told me that Auntie Margaret was the Auntie that always made him feel welcome from day one. She really had that amazing quality, which stemmed from how much she cared.
One recent memory that also stands out was just last summer at Merrick's wedding, when I told her I couldn't stay for the reception because I had to go back home to take care of Luka, who was 2 months old at the time. An ordinary person would simply have sympathized with me. But Auntie Margaret said to me, "Why don't I watch the baby while you enjoy the reception? We can take turns!" And she really meant it.
Her kindness, laughter, and her sparkle will always be remembered. We miss you so much, Auntie Margaret.

Margaret was a stranger who took in my infant son when I was stuck without a sitter one day. Her warmth and kindness put me at ease and I trusted her immediately. So began a 27 year friendship filled with fun and laughter. And did we laugh! loudly... A beautiful person gone too soon.

I met Margaret in 1984 at Carlingwood mall where we were both working. She was my mentor and a lifelong friend to me and my family. Even when life was busy we took the time to text each other every day. Margaret was a kind and caring person. I am shocked and saddened by her sudden passing. Margaret, we will always miss you.
