It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of George A. Stewart of Aberdeen Scotland, Woodstock and Ottawa Ontario. George passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, after a short illness. He is now with his dearly beloved wife Jean M. Stewart and his cherished youngest child Sheena Stewart.
He was a devoted Father to Leslie, John and James (Sylvie), and a loving Grandfather to Alana Farmer, Randi Farmer (Calgary AB), Alexander Fels (Lauren) (Oxford, UK) and Sabrina Stewart (Aylmer, PQ).
The Stewart Family wishes to acknowledge the support and care of his many friends, his church, the Valley Stream Retirement Home, Dr Goindi and all the Carefor Staff.
Leaving a lasting mark on all who knew him-George will be fondly remembered and sadly missed.

George, it has been an honor and privilege to have served with you. Even more, your friendship, support, and mentorship in all things north of the arctic circle has been an amazing experience and a memory I shall never forget.

He was indeed a legend. If you needed someone who knew how to get things done, George was your man. RIP!

A legend in the SRS World and a gentleman. I was lucky to have our paths cross.

My husband and I were saddened to read of George’s passing. I last spoke to him a few months ago when he phoned to tell us of his illness. Over the years we enjoyed his company on his visits to Aberdeen and on his return to Canada we kept in touch by email.
Although my Aunt Mary and family emigrated to Canada in 1951 the family always kept in touch and over the years we enjoyed visits from Aunt Mary, Mary, Alice and Walter, Doreen and George. Sadly George was the last survivor of my ‘Canadian’ cousins.
He was a great guy and will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with you all.

So sad to learn of George’s passing. We have fond memories of his visits to us in Aberdeen. Our golf games and socialising with cousins Pat and Jim. There was so much to catch up on as he was only in his early teens when the family completed their emigration to Canada. It was great to hear all his stories of his Navy service in the Artic. Kindest regards and condolances to you all.
To Leslie, John & James,
Before your Dad’s passing, I got to visit with him a couple of times, and at least once a week, I got to speak with him on the telephone. We enjoyed our conversations, not so much to talk about how your Dad was feeling, but rather, about him asking me how I was doing. My wife Muriel has Alzheimer’s and because George was very familiar with the stages of this progressive disease, he understood my situation. He would always tell me that he was keeping me and Muriel in his prayers. And speaking about praying, we also talked about our strong religion and our steadfast belief of God’s promise of life beyond death (John 3:16). Your Dad told me that he had no fear of dying, and that I should start calling him ‘Fearless George’.
I am going to miss my conversations with George and I am going to miss seeing him at the CFS Leitrim SUPRAD Oldtimers GAGGLEs. Even though he was still working, (70 consecutive years of unbroken service), your Dad always found the time to attend these get-togethers, and remember the good old days with good old friends. God Bless You George, and may you rest in peace.
