It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of George A. Stewart of Aberdeen Scotland, Woodstock and Ottawa Ontario. George passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, after a short illness. He is now with his dearly beloved wife Jean M. Stewart and his cherished youngest child Sheena Stewart.
He was a devoted Father to Leslie, John and James (Sylvie), and a loving Grandfather to Alana Farmer, Randi Farmer (Calgary AB), Alexander Fels (Lauren) (Oxford, UK) and Sabrina Stewart (Aylmer, PQ).
The Stewart Family wishes to acknowledge the support and care of his many friends, his church, the Valley Stream Retirement Home, Dr Goindi and all the Carefor Staff.
Leaving a lasting mark on all who knew him-George will be fondly remembered and sadly missed.

I've known George since the early 70s. That he will be remembered is evidenced by the significant numbers of ex 291'ers who commented so favorably about George. He made quite an impression upon me through his professionalism, one that stayed with me throughout my career. RIP Sailor.

To say George was a legend in his community is an understatement. He helped shape the defence of Canada for 70 years. I will always remember fondly the year and a half I shared a cubicle wall with George and I already miss his acerbic but astute observations. Fair winds and following seas. Pacem petere.

To Leslie, John, James, Family Members & Friends,
The members of the Canadian Forces Supplementary Radio (SUPRAD) System Oldtimers Association were deeply saddened by the news of George’e passing. George cherished his many friendships (wingers), and was a proud Life Member of our Association. It was always enjoyable sitting with him at CFS Leitrim get-togethers and remembering stories from our past. We shared many laughs. George had a very successful military career (retiring as a Chief Petty Officer 1st Class) and an impressive civilian career, working in the Department of National Defence, overseeing CC130 Hercules flights going to and from the top of the world, Alert. George’s collection of accomplishments along the way are too many to number. One of his greatest achievements, other than the love of his family, was his extra-ordinary careers in military and as a civilian that spanned a record 70 years of continuous unbroken service to his country. This milestone was achieved on the 24th of January 2025. BRAVO ZULU George!
At the entranceway to the CFS Leitrim All Ranks Mess there is a SUPRAD Oldtimers Association Tree of Life. In loving memory of George, a small bronze cross will now be placed on the leaf that has his name on it. Also, at our June 2025 Annual Reunion Service of Remembrance, George’s name will be read during the service. We will remember him.
Pleas know that as members of your extended military family, we will be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Fair winds George, as you sail to your next destination to be re-united with your wife Jennie and your daughter Sheena. God Bless.

I had the pleasure of sitting near Mr. Stewart for the better half of a year. The few stories you gave inspired me to keep going for a long time yet. Rest easy.

George, you will be sorely missed. From our first meeting on Boxtop I-87 until the last time we spoke on 85/86 in June 2023 you were always a consummate professional and a great friend to the aircrews supporting the Arctic. I have many fond memories of "chauffeuring" you around the Arctic while you regaled us with tales of the old days. Godspeed and Thanks again.

I am a co worker of George's. I was luckily enough to sit in the cubicle beside his for two years, starting in 2022. I enjoyed my daily chats with George and the stories he shared with me about his family and his life. He was always kind, caring and friendly to me. May he rest in peace! My condolences to George's family and friends.
