Sadly, Pamela Jean Sanders, aged 61, passed away on November 6, 2024 at the Civic hospital in Ottawa.

Born in Fredericton, Pamela defied all odds by living with Muscular Dystrophy for her entire life. She is survived by her mother, Wilda Jean, her father, Roland Charles, her brother Greg and sister-in-law Erica, nephew Brian (wife Judit and daughter Elena), nephew Daniel (partner Olivia), niece Heather (husband Kyle and son Ben).

Her work history included the Federal government, the March of Dimes and Wild Willy's florist.

She overwintered in Florida with her parents for many years. She enjoyed the warm winters being able to get around in her cart. They drove around to many wonderful sites.

One of her great loves was interacting with her two nephews and niece. She adored them. From the day they were born, she would hold them in her arms. As they grew into toddlers, they would run around her like busy bees. She loved family vacations in Florida, cramming as many beach outings, cruises and amusement parks as time would allow. Eventually she would only be able to see them at her long term care home, or by facetime.

Despite her handicap, Pamela became a gifted Toronto Conservatory Student Pianist. She also obtained her Honours Baccalaureate in British History and Economics at Glendon College, York University. She was an avid needle pointer, producing many works that hang in several homes. She loved to read historical fiction and forensic crime novels. She was able to paint many pictures of various themes. She crocheted many small items. All of these talents became increasingly difficult for her to undertake as time went on.

Pamela’s greatest passion was Genealogy coupled with her in-depth knowledge of British History. Through her 30 plus years of researching all branches of her family, she was able to trace one family branch back to the Charlemagne Era.

Pam was supported by wonderful nurses, PSW's and support staff for the past 15 years at Granite Ridge long term care. Her last hours were under the care of Dr. Turk and nursing staff at the Civic Hospital.

Friends and Family are invited to pay respects at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave, Ottawa on Wednesday November 13th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday November 14th after 12 noon. Funeral will be held in the Sacred Space on Thursday November 14th at 1 p.m. followed by interment and reception.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada.

Pam was a remarkable woman, with a fierce intelligence and sharp wit. I will miss those special sidebar conversations we had together at holiday dinners. And I’ll always remember her beautiful hands and nails. Rest in peace. Love from Nikki and Daniel in Toronto
