Sam the Gorf, Papi, and Post One

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Yvon (Sam) loving husband of LOIS for almost 49 years, beloved "Papi" of Darlene and Dad to Kevin (Donna). A loving Grandpa to Dana and Dexter. Predeceased by his father Adélard, his mother Lydia, his brother Gilles and his sister-in-law Therese, and brother Michel (Ida). He leaves in mourning his brother Jacques (Raymonde) and his sister Ginette (Graham). He leaves behind many-in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Sam travelled this Country far and wide with the Armed Forces, he proudly served for 33 years. His career took him to a United Nations 9 month tour in the Congo in the 1960's, Quebec City, Inuvik NWT, Bermuda, Kingston, Gander NL, Masset BC, Washington DC, many tours at Alert NWT, and finally for the past 30 plus years, Ottawa. When he retired, he joined the Commissionaires and served for nearly 18 years at the Supreme Court as a Supervisor.

Private cremation has taken place. A Celebration of his fabulous life will be held at Beechwood National Military Cemetery 280 Beechwood Avenue Ottawa, on Saturday April 8, 2023 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. Words of Remembrance will be shared at 1:00pm.

It was my privilege as Yvon’s brother in law to have known him since 1987. Yvon accepted me as a family member with open arms.
Throughout the glorious years, Yvon and I shared many, many stories and laughter together.
The opportunity to have travelled along with him during the past few difficult years earned my utmost love and respect for his honesty, caring, strength, courage and tenacity, yet maintaining a good, healthy sense of humour. It was an honour. Rest in peace Yvon (Sam)!

Dear Lois and family,
Our hearts and prayers are with you at this sad time. Sam & I worked together on more than one Communication Station. He was a dedicated 291er who was a credit to the trade, military and our Country. I counted him as a good friend.
Our most sincere condolences.

Dear Lois and family, My heart goes out to each of you and especially Lois. I can only imagine your feelings at this time. Sam was a kind, accepting man ... a gracious soul. Caring, healing, supportive thoughts are sent your way now and in the months that follow. I pray you will shoulder the changes and challenges with peace and grace.
