We are heartbroken to announce that on December 19th, 2022, Victor Saikaley’s brave fight against pancreatic cancer ended in a draw, as he passed peacefully in his home. He is survived by his loving wife Rena, and two sons Marcus and Thomas, along with the families of his siblings Mary-Lou, Gloria, and Charles.

Victor was born to John and Georgette Saikaley on December 22, 1958 in Ottawa. Highly valuing education, Victor proudly graduated from Hillcrest Highschool and later Carleton University with a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil).

Victor worked as a structural engineer, a restaurant owner, and a property manager throughout his lifetime. His greatest joy in life were his two boys. A wonderfully modest man, Victor was devoted to his family above all. He was a brilliant chess player and teacher, who carried humble passions for plants, cooking, karate, and coffee.

At the request of Victor’s family, it is asked in lieu of flowers or other tokens, to please donate to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 27th, 2022, from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 7:00pm – 9:00pm. Funeral service will be held the following day on Wednesday, December 28th, 2022, beginning at 1:00pm. Both will be held at Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, ON K1L 8A6.

Since our days at Carleton, we were fortunate to have Vic in our lives. We remember fondly our cottage excursions and sharing time together in Ottawa and Toronto as our families grew. Tony will miss knowing that his old friend and classmate is no longer a phone call away. But we will cherish our memories and hold them close. Rena, Marcus, and Thomas, please accept our deepest sympathies on your loss. Laura & Tony

I knew Vic from Hillcrest and Carleton as well. A great guy with a great sense of humour. While I'm saddened by his passing, my memories of good times in his company will always bring a smile. My sincere condolences to all Victor's family.
