It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vicki Arlene Thomson at the age of 85. Vicki is survived by her husband David, son Scott (Terri) and daughter Laura Rhodes (Michael). Vicki was predeceased by daughter Lietta. She leaves behind grandchildren Matthew, Kevin, Hannah, Maxwell and Cameron. Her great granddaughter Sofia was born nine days earlier.
Born in New Toronto to George and Helen Robinson (deceased), sister to Paul Robinson and to Valerie Cole (deceased), she trained as a registered nurse at Women’s College Hospital and at the University of Toronto.
She started her career with the Victoria Order of Nurses. Once married to David, she raised their 3 children while his career as an army officer brought them all over the world. Their travels, over the course of 30 years included ten postings within Canada, Germany and Kashmir (India and Pakistan). During these moves, not to sit idly by, Vicki was deeply committed to community affairs as a nurse, school trustee, youth activities and women’s recovery home advocate.
On David’s posting to Ottawa, Vicki continued her nursing career at the Royal Ottawa Hospital, first in psychiatry and then in addiction recovery. Throughout her life, Vicki displayed love, honesty and dedication to family and to women’s rights.
In accordance with Vicki’s wishes a private internment will take place. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory can be made to Empathy House.
