Peacefully, on his own terms, on May 9, with family by his side, with “no regrets” - a life well lived. Born in Toronto, raised and worked across Ontario in North Bay and Arnprior, and settling in Ottawa, Tom eventually became a skilled electrician, and eventually worked for Public Works, from where he retired. Tom was a beloved partner and husband of Hélène Giguère for over 36 years. He taught his daughters (with former wife Carolyn) Stephanie - married to Anoop - and Shannon - married to Tim, to fish , boat, golf, cottage, camp, install plugs and fixtures, what tools to have in a toolbelt, and cook and enjoy good food, especially deviled eggs. But mostly, he taught us all how to enjoy life and love deeply. Devoted grandfather to Arabella and Arin, he never let a day pass without knowing how they were doing, and being proud of all they had done - all while making them laugh and smile with his incredible sense of humour and giant smile. Now his joking about being ''St. Thomas'' can be true.
With bluest of eyes, and smoothest of voices, Tom charmed young and old around him, with chocolate in his pockets, or a song in his heart. If not an electrician, he may have been a spy like James Bond, or a dancer and singer like Gene Kelly, or a songwriter like Neil Sedaka. Whatever he would have done, he would have been Singing ' in the Rain.
Once he retired, Tom, with Hélène, fulfilled many travel dreams in Paris, Egypt, Italy and more of Europe, as well as many Caribbean Cruises and even recently, Disney World with Shannon, Tim and Arabella! He also was able to play as much golf as he wanted, and found a great group of golf buddies who cared more about the company than the score.
Brother of Sandy (Freddie), Paul (Vicky), John (Muci), David (Debbie); Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother and father, Edna and Olivier, and brothers Billy and Stephen. Tom had humble beginnings, but worked hard to be able to enjoy the things he loved, and provide for those he loved. We will be forever grateful for him. We will miss him terribly, and remember him every day.
''We will feel him in the rain, in the wind, in the bit of snow, in the scent of autumn leaves, and in deep and penetrating silence. We might miss him terribly, but will never be away from him. He returns to joy, as we all will on day''. Louise Penny
