It is with deep sorrow we inform you of the death of Norman Kyle peacefully at home August 7, 2025 following a lengthy illness.
Born in Sussex, New Brunswick, July 11, 1936 the seventh and last child of Frank and Margaret Kyle. Preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings, Christina, Lenora, Fred, Ron, Raymond and Robert, he leaves as well a large extended family scattered across Canada.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Flemming, his son Brian (Maria Perrella) and his daughter, Natasha (Jonathan Singer) and four marvellous grandchildren, Alec, Sara, Bennett and Lauren. He was so proud of his two children and dearly loved his grandchildren.
Raised in Sussex, NB, a child of World War II, he joined the militia (8th Hussars) but chose to join the RCMP following a speech by an RCMP officer at his high school describing the Mountie career.
Initially posted in Kentville, NS, he was subsequently transferred to Halifax and then Toronto when he was moved to the security service leaving the uniform side for the rest of his career. He joined CSIS when it was created in 1984 retiring as Deputy Director General in 1992. Interestingly, he was a part of the embryonic group focused on counter-terrorism which is now a major focus of the intelligence community.
Following his retirement he joined Transport Canada for a four year stint before finally packing it in.
Always a hard worker, Norm also knew how to have fun as anyone who knew him would attest. With his easy going personality and super sense of humour, he was liked wherever he went.
A life-long outdoor enthusiast, Norm camped, cross country skied and managed a 10-15 mile run most days while completing countless marathons.
Although he left the Maritimes physically, he never left psychologically and was a proud New Brunswicker until the day he died. Loving the area he enjoyed our summer home on the Bay of Fundy where he was able to stay in touch with family particularly his sister, Teeny, who died at age 96.
Norm will be greatly missed by his wife, his children and grandchildren as well as all who knew him.
We love you Normie!
A celebration of life will be held in the fall.

Norm was a warm, welcoming, hospitable man. And a true Maritimer. When he sowed us around Fundy National Park, he did it with the affection and familiarity of someone introducing you to his own home. My deepest condolences to you, Jeanne, and to the family for your loss.

Dear Jeanne, Natasha and all the family. I know there are no words that can ease your pain. Norm was a kind and gentle soul. He was a wonderful man, a wonderful friend. Nothing can prepare you for the loss of a parent/friend. Life moves forward but there’s a space that can’t ever be filled.
RIP Normie! I truly will miss you. ❤️🩹

Sorry to hear of the passing of Norm, he was a great person to work for and with in CT. I fondly remember him talking of being from Sussex "The Dairy Capital of NB". Rest well friend!
