Master Corporal Shaun Vincent Orton, CD: From his darkness he has found his light

It is with a broken soul and shattered heart that I announce the passing of Shaun on 21 April 2024.

Originally an Alberta boy, he was born and lived in Calgary until he joined the military, having the distinction of serving in the 2nd Battalion PPCLI. This included a tour in Afghanistan where accountability was held. RIMPAC 2012 was a bucket list exercise that began Shaun’s love of the water and being on ships. Shaun transferred to the Intelligence Branch in 2015 and had a year-long tour in Kuwait on Op IMPACT. However, the challenges of his youth, and the demons of his past finally overtook him.

Sarah and Shaun were married in the snowy Canadian Rockies of Banff on 11 January 2010, while home from Afghanistan. Through the years Sarah was with him showing him love and kindness through to his last breath. Shaun was the Beloved son in-law of Joni and Joe Pitzel, Welland, ON, Sister in-laws Amy Clowater (Andrew) of Fredericton, NB, and Jessica Torres (John) of Welland, ON, and nieces and nephews, Ellie, Jade, Phoebe, River and Forrest, and special friends, Cam and Sharon.

Shaun touched all of our hearts in the most wholesome, loving, and honest ways. He wore his heart on his sleeve and his loyalty was true. While his body rests at the National Military Cemetery in Ottawa, his spirit has gone on to Valhalla. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Warrior Sailing through Soldier On where more Veterans can find the calm waters of sailing before it’s too late.

He followed the True North compass of his soul

May he be following the compass now

To southern shores and calmer waters.

At the going down of the sun

May they remember US.

Military members are invited to wear DEU-1A (medals) to the visitation and to the funeral.

Shaun,

Thank you for your encouragement, positive attitude, and eagerness to assist with any task while we spent that year in Kuwait. I will forever remember how we dreamt and talked about getting back and landing some monster fish in the boats we had earmarked for purchase upon our return back. Shaun, keep that line tight until we meet again.

Rest Easy Shaun.

What a joy it was to meet such a vivacious guy, face to face, after I kept accidentally emailing him instead of my husband, Shawn Olton. Rest in peace brother.

Gone too soon. It was an honour getting to know and working with you when we did worked together in the Bn HQ, although it has been some time since we spoke. I always regret that our big boar hunt didn't work out. May your soul rest in peace.

Shaun's life was his own. He found a place where he belonged with the people that were important to him. He mattered to so many and will be dearly missed.
