It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Laliberté, on April 10, 2025, in Ottawa, at the age of 79.
Born in Hawkesbury, Ontario, Robert was a man deeply devoted to his family and friends. A lifelong teacher, he touched the lives of many young people with his kindness, humour, and love of mathematics. An avid athlete, traveller, joker and storyteller, Robert had a gift for making people laugh and bringing them together. His empathy and warmth made him a ray of sunshine in the lives of those around him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jocelyne Laliberté (née Latrémouille), his children Geneviève (Michael Duke) and Philippe (Nicole Wood), as well as his cherished grandchildren Sophie, Jason, Brianne, and Noah. He is also survived by his brothers Raymond and Patrick, several brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Irene and Lionel Laliberté; his nephews Charles Laliberté and Luc Latrémouille; and his parents-in-law Rita and Irenée Latrémouille, along with his brother-in-law André Latrémouille.
The family sincerely thanks everyone who supported Robert over the past months, and especially during his final days. He will remain forever in our hearts, with his mischievous smile and the stories that lit up the eyes of everyone around him.
Friends, family, colleagues, students and all who wish to honour him are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on May 30 at 1:00 p.m. at Beechwood Cemetery, where we will gather to honour and remember Robert together.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation (Cancer Research), in gratitude for the exceptional care and support Robert received.
