It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Reda Habib Sedki in the early hours on May 6, 2024.

Reda will be deeply missed by his wife of 52 years Sonia, his two daughters: Engy (Brahm) and Nevine; his granddaughter Marlowe; and by his brother Hany. He is predeceased by his parents Habib and Victoria Fanous and his sister Samia.

As a young man in Cairo, Reda initially pursued a career in Egyptian folkloric dance as a member of the famed Reda Troupe. Eventually heeding his father’s direction, Reda switched course and studied civil engineering at Cairo University. For the rest of his life, he balanced this love of the arts and sciences.

After marrying Sonia Zaklama in 1972, the two moved to Dubai and later Abu Dhabi. Reda worked as an engineer on construction projects throughout the Middle East before moving his family, which then included two young daughters, to their new home in Ottawa. Reda was very proud of his engineering career, building infrastructure with OC Transpo and later the City of Ottawa.

An avid photographer, Reda found many friends in local camera clubs. Often viewing himself as an early adopter of technology, he liked to brag that he was the first person in Ottawa to own a digital camera. This love of digital photography was evident when he was leading classes on the latest versions of Photoshop, Lightroom, other editing software, or photo printing.

Radiating charm, charisma, and a witty sense of humour, Reda's smile lit up every room he walked into. He effortlessly ignited conversations, shared his opinions, and brought laughter to those around him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation.

Funeral arrangements under the care and direction of Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 14th, 2024, at St. George and St. Anthony Coptic Orthodox Church at 11am (1081 Cadboro Rd, Ottawa).

Deepest condolences to Engy, Brahm and family. I have very fond memories of Reda, our conversations, his laugh, and the discussions on photography. His award winning Christmas tree photo affixed to the wall on the second floor at 1500 occupies a happy place when i recollect on all the OC years. He had a positive influence on many of us, and will be missed. Rest well...

I will really miss Reda. I had the great pleasure and privilege along with Freeman Keats to visit Egypt at Reda's invitation some years ago. Reda served as our tour guide for Cairo and many of the historic sites along the Nile that we travelled to. It was an unforgettable visit and I'm forever indebted to Reda for the opportunity he gave us.
