With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Patricia May Sayer (née Plunkett), born in Ottawa, Ontario, to William Bailey Plunkett and Eva May Plunkett. Pat was a beloved sister to Barbara Gray, devoted wife to the late Norman Dearden Sayer, and the heart of a close-knit, loving family.

Married on May 31, 1952, Pat and Norman built a rich life together for over 75 years. She is now survived by her daughter Pamela Sayer (John Ward), grandchildren Cailey and Sean, and great grandchildren Esme and Rhys, by her son Robert Sayer (Ann Pushman), grandchildren Patrick and Emily and great grandchildren Isla and Jack, and her son Bruce Sayer (Elaine Corria) and grandchild Danielle.

Known affectionately as Pat, she was the trusted keeper of family stories and updates, always staying connected with loved ones. She was the go-to for family news, offering warmth, insight, and support. Pat’s social spirit extended far beyond her home. She was a gracious host and community contributor giving her time and energies to the May Court Club of Ottawa for over fifty years, the International Club of Ottawa, and the Ohara School of Ikebana. Members from these organizations formed a bridge club of which Pat was an active member.

A proud military wife, Pat moved her young family across the Atlantic six times with strength and grace. She and Norman embraced their adventurous life together, traveling extensively across Canada, the U.S., Europe, and the tropics. They shared a love of tennis, golf, curling, bridge, dancing, and hosting lively parties.

Pat was a woman of elegance and character—gracious, thoughtful unafraid to speak her mind, and always ready to enjoy a good book. She lived a full, joyful life and leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience.

We say goodbye with deep sadness for our loss and profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived. Pat was truly one of a kind.

It is with great sadness that I heard of the passing of Aunt Pat. I have fond memories of a strong, vibrant lady and the obituary is a beautiful summary of a very lovely and loving lady. A very rich life, well lived. Pat will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Rest in Peace.

Words are hard to come by… the loss of both of your beloved parents so close together seems at once both fitting but ever so sad. Fitting that they should leave this earth together after the rich and fulfilling life they shared, but sad for those left behind. But Norman and Pat’s children share their parents’ strength and grace and will carry on telling their love story for years to come. May they all find peace in knowing they died as they lived- with courage, strength, grace and much love for the beautiful family they created.
