Chow, Nong Kay (a.k.a. “Jerry”) - Of Ottawa, passed away peacefully in hospital on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at the age of 90. Son of the late Kwong Yet “Jack” Chow and late Loi Ho Szeto, Nong Kay is survived by his devoted wife Sau Lun (a.k.a. “Suzie”), daughters Kay (Bill Haldenby) and Kathy (Brendan Lee), grandchildren, Robert and Meaghan Haldenby, Madison and Mattea Lee. Nong Kay also leaves behind his sister-in-law, niece and nephews, friends and neighbours in Ottawa and other relations across Canada and U.S.

Born in China in 1933, Nong Kay arrived in Canada in 1951 and travelled all across North America as a young man – most frequently sojourning in Chicago, Toronto, San Francisco and Washington DC – before he met and married Sau Lun in 1964. After a brief period in Saskatoon, he and Sau Lun settled in Ottawa where they raised their two daughters.

Nong Kay will be remembered as a man whose strength in character far exceeded his physical stature, whose devotion to his wife and daughters was beyond reproach, whose determination was unbeatable. He instilled in his daughters the importance of living, learning and never giving up.

Relatives and friends of family may call at the Beechwood Funeral Services at 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa on Thursday, April 6, 2023 from 10 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:15 a m. and interment at Beechwood Cemetery will follow at 12:15 p.m.

Many thanks to the compassionate and caring staff at The Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus.

A very honourable man with a wicked sense of humour! I will really miss him and our football talks. Rest now Jerry, it's been quite a ride!
