It is with great sadness that we let you know that Michael John Light passed away on February 22, 2024. He leaves behind his beloved and loving wife, Nadine Welter, his nephews and nieces: Geoff (Kim), Natalie (Gary), Dave (Sara), Mary-Jane and Steve, cousins and many friends of long standing, who valued his friendship and sterling attributes. He was predeceased by his older brother Bill (Connie) and older sister Mary Jane (Gary). Loyal, intelligent, extremely kind and wearing his knowledge and skills lightly, Michael was born in London, Ontario. He grew up in Windsor, overcoming many challenges to put himself through university and earn money at the Ford Motor Company to buy an impressive light blue 67 Ford Galaxie convertible, which was his pride and joy. He then forged a career in the federal government in Immigration Canada. This took him to many different countries over the years, including India, China, Kosovo and Kenya as well as Italy and New York. Throughout this time, as well as providing his brand of excellent work through diligence, care, and a remarkable ability to listen, to understand those seeking to come to Canada, his path led him to gain numerous friends, including those in a group nicknamed 'the Usual Suspects'. Outside of work, Michael was a family man, enjoying a good glass of wine over dinner with his wife or walking golden retriever Cara, who he'd helped to collect from a farm at 9 weeks old. He kept in close touch with relatives and friends and will be much missed by them all.

A Celebration of Michael's Life will be held at Beechwood Cemetery (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, ON) on April 13, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
