It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our daughter, sister and mother, Merran Katherine Blaker Scott.

She died late Thursday afternoon March 10th, 2022 of cancer at the Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital. She passed with her loved ones by her side.

Merran is survived and deeply mourned by her two loving daughters Krista Blaker and Morgan Scott, her granddaughter Brielle Anna Baker, her parents Rod and Gloria Blaker and her older brother and best friend Eric Blaker.

Even though our hearts are broken by her passing, she inspired us by her strength and determination to partake of life to the end.

Those who knew Merran will always treasure the memories of her beautiful smile and her kind spirit. Her sense of humour and love of laughter will never be forgotten.

Family and close friends will be gathering by invitation in April to celebrate Merran’s life.

A funeral service will be held in late May or June at St. Thomas Anglican Church in Dunrobin when Merran’s ashes will be buried beside her late husband, Robert Scott.

The family would like to thank the truly incredible and caring community health care professionals who provided palliative care for Merran with special thanks to Dr. Hacker. Thanks as well to the health care team who provided end of life care for her at the Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make a memorial contribution in Merran’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society: https://cancer.ca/ or the Bruyère Foundation: https://www.bruyere.org/

Tributes, memories and condolences can be made here.

Peter D's contribution to our poetry month today ends with: "...so that gradually
You may come to know
That deep in that black hole
You will find the blue flower
That holds the mystical light
Which will illuminate in you
The glimmer of springtime."
Know that you have many of us with you as you await the light.

My sincere condolences to Gloria , Rod, Eric, Krista, Morgan and Brielle on Merran's death. I recall Merran as a spirited young woman who had a special niche in her heart for music and animals. The recollections of your shared moments with her will sustain you in the days and years ahead.

Words alone cannot express my heartfelt condolences to all of you. Merran and I were kindred spirits for many years and she leaves a large hole in my heart with her passing. May you cherish the special memories that honor the spirit of who Merran really was. Much love, strength and hugs.
