CORRIGAN (nee RENO), Maureen Theresa - age 94 years, Ottawa, ON

It is with profound sadness that her family announce that Maureen passed in her sleep (just as she had hoped) after a brief stay at the Ottawa General Hospital, Saturday, 19 July, 2025. She valiantly battled cancer until her body couldn’t battle any longer.

Maureen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, Super-Granny, daughter, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, cousin, and friend.

Born in Halifax, NS, to the late Clara (Walsh) and (John) Leonard Reno, she grew up in a happy and loving family. She was pre-deceased by her brother Gerald (Mary); sister Rita (Alexander “Sandy” MacDonald, whom she loved as a brother); and, “little” brother (by one year) Kenneth (Ida). She excelled at school and business school and became a Secretary to Chartered Accountants. Her life took a new path when she married the love of her life, Arthur (Art) Gregory Corrigan. Being the wife of a Royal Canadian Navy sailor out of Shearwater, NS, in the Fifties and Sixties, took strength, tenacity, perseverance, and smarts, especially when her seven children arrived within seven years of each other: Joanne (Lou Volpe), Greg (Susanne Martin), David (deceased), Daniel (Barb), Lynne, Susan (Brian Hogan), and Stephen (deceased).

While she loved her full-time job as wife and mother, we didn’t make it easy on her. After a posting to CFB Rockcliffe in Ottawa, ON, in 1970 with tweens and teenagers, she was afforded the time to enjoy golfing in the Summer and curling in the Winter, with all of the socializing they entailed. Her life changed forever with the passing of her love, Art, in 1992. She continued to excel at her role as Granny to: Jason (Kathy) Volpe, Jordan (Kerri) Volpe, Adam (Alexandria) Volpe, and Joey (Rachel) Volpe; Stephen Corrigan (Sharon Godsell), Shanna McInenly (Kyle Ducharme), and Nathan Griffiths (Gen Blanchard); Stephanie (Dustin Lappan), and Lindsay (Curt Hayes); and Darryl (Erin) Hogan, and Patrick “Phogan” (Melissa) Hogan. She was over the moon when she became Super-Granny to Diego, Juliano, Quinton, Alina, Zoey, Ella, Cole, Maielle, Rosie, Emmerson, Elodie, Rory, Luke, and Xander.

Maureen had a full life where family meant everything. That included friends who were family and family who were friends. There are just too many to mention.

As a devout Catholic, there will be a service for Maureen at the Annunciation of the Lord Parish, 2414 Ogilvie Road, Gloucester, ON, on 1 August, 2025 at 11 a.m. A Celebration of Life will follow in the Parish Hall. Interment will be at 3 p.m. at Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Vanier, ON.

Special thanks go to her friend, Joan Wills, who, among many other kindnesses, made her dinner every night for the past number of years; the Carefor nurses, especially Andy and Jackie; the CBI staff, especially Laurie (deceased) and Sabrina, her PSWs; Dr. T Thomas, Bruyere Family Medical Centre, who made house calls and treated her with such respect and dignity; Dr. McLaughlin, Radiology at the General Hospital; Niece Theresa Schopf who brought her lunch and reminisced most Tuesdays; Wanda Jackson, her daughter from another mother, who supported her through her cancer treatments and beyond; her daughter, Sue, who was Mom’s rock through these past several years doing so much for her; and many friends and family who stepped up and gave her quality of life. All of the above enabled her to live alone in her home until the end, just as she had wished.

In lieu of flowers, it would be appreciated if a donation could be made to the Gloucester Emergency Food Cupboard; Harvest House Ministries; a charity of your choice; or, help someone in need.

I express my deepest sympathy in this time of grief. The Bible promises that your loved one will live again on a beautiful paradise earth when death will be no more in John 6:28, 29.

Dear Susan, Lynne, Joanne, Danny and Greg,

All of the Poirier's are very sorry for your loss. Your Mom was always kind to me. She loved my Mom and Dad and family and she told me so on many occasions, and the Poirier family reciprocated that love. A wonderful example of how the world should work: love and respect given and received. Thank you so much for being in my life Aunt Maureen. Love,
Donna and Rande

Dear Joanne, Greg, Danny, Lynne and Susan,
My sincere condolences for the loss of your mother. I have fond memories of your mom and dad at our family gatherings at my mom and dad’s place, dancing on Boxing Day and playing baseball in the fields at the farm during summer BBQs...the good old days :). May you all feel comforted by the love and support from your family and friends during this difficult time. May your mom rest in peace. Love, Lorrie Ann
