It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Maureen Anne Kennedy (née Downey) at the age of 76 on January 24, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.  Predeceased by her beloved husband of 53 years, Erroll Patrick Kennedy, and her parents Cletus and Alice Downey.  Loving mother to Kari (Stéphane), Sean and Kevin.  Dear sister to Daniel Downey, Sheila (Eero) Makela and brother-in-law David Kennedy (Trudy).   Proud mémère and grandma to Elizabeth, Katheryne, Beau, Angélique, Keegan and Luke, and great grandson Joseph.

Maureen started her career as a schoolteacher in Deep River where she spent 2 years at St. Mary’s school, followed by years at CRA doing income tax and census.  She spent the last 30 years of her career as a parish secretary (19 years at Divine Infant Parish in Orleans and 11 years at Resurrection of Our Lord Parish in Ottawa).  During some difficult and challenging years, Maureen was supported by many beautiful and loving friends.  Special thanks to Hospice Care Ottawa for the compassionate care provided by the team at Maison de l’Est in her final days.  Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass on February 15, 2025, at Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, 3092 Innes Rd, Ottawa at 11:00am.  Visitation from 10:00am-11:00am in the church foyer.  A reception in the parish hall will follow.  Interment at Beechwood Cemetery to take place at a later date.

Donations in memory of Maureen can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society www.cancer.ca, Parkinson Canada www.Parkinson.ca or the Ottawa Hospital Foundation www.ohfoundation.ca.  For online condolences please visit www.beechwoodottawa.ca

Good bye my friend, goodbye for now.
We met in the summer of 1975 and through out the past 50 years we shared many life experiences. From caring for our children, teaching me how to make pies and buns and having many meals together with the 4 of us. We comforted each other during Jim and Erroll's deaths. You were supportive godparents to Lynne. I will miss you Maureen, but now your time has come to return home, for new birth has come.

Our most sincere sympathy to Maureen’s family and friends. We had the chance to have her and Erroll as neighbours for over 25 years, and always enjoyed having chats with both of them. Wishing you courage to face the days ahead and loving memories to forever hold in your heart.
