October 16, 1931 to January 1, 2025 - Peacefully after a short illness and surrounded by family at the May Court Hospice in Ottawa, Ontario.
Marjorie was predeceased by her beloved husband Dr. James Lounder, her parents Earl and Marjorie Rudderham (nee Ingraham), her brothers William and Kenneth Rudderham, her sisters-in-law Helen and Lorraine Rudderham and brothers-in-law Donald Lounder and Kenneth Brodersen.
Marjorie was the loving mother of Janet, Barbara (Robert Bean), Stephen (Susan Dent), Kathleen and John (Suzanne); the beloved grandmother of Una Lounder (Tim Hornsby), Edan Joseph Naumetz, Erin and Heather Lounder, Ava and Ella Lounder, and the proud great-grandmother of Carter and Hayley-Lynn Chenier and Ada Hornsby.
Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Marjorie was a proud Cape Bretoner. Adored by her two older brothers, she was affectionately known as "Sister" during her childhood. She left Cape Breton for Halifax where she studied nursing at Victoria General Hospital. She was one of the longest serving members of the VGH Nursing Alumni and looked forward to attending and hosting regular alumni reunions.
Marjorie enjoyed life as a military spouse, with postings in Nova Scotia, Germany, Ottawa, and Churchill. Her home was welcoming and convivial, filled with cherished memories, family lore, and delicious food. Marjorie loved to travel, and in her later years made memorable trips on her own to visit family and friends in Canada, the USA, the Caribbean, South Korea and England. Current affairs and political intrigues were an abiding passion, and Marjorie’s keen observations were shared in daily emails up until her final weeks.
Marjorie liked to make new friends from all walks of life, truly enjoyed learning about others’ experiences, and inspired us to appreciate the benefits of friendship. A kind and generous champion for all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, Marjorie celebrated all our triumphs, and had hugs, kisses and words of wisdom for everything else.
The family sincerely appreciates the care and kindness Marjorie received at the Ottawa Hospital and at the May Court Hospice. Special thanks are extended to Marjorie's beloved niece, Gail Hollingshead and her husband Ken for all their love and assistance in the past several years, especially in her final days.
Friends and family will be received for a time of gathering on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 2:00pm in the Sacred Space at Beechwood Cemetery (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa), a Memorial service to be held at 2:30pm followed by interment and a reception in the Visitation suites.

We are deeply saddened by Marjorie’s passing. Marjorie was an incredible woman, her smile and laughter was infectious. Marjorie had a way of making you feel like the most important person in room when she spoke to you.
Sending love and support to the entire family during this difficult time.
