Marie Koyman (née Shacker)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Koyman on the morning of July 15, 2025.
Beloved wife to the late Benjamin, mother to Robert, Terry, and Arlie, mother-in-law to Caroline (Nadeau), and grandmother to Harrison, Saxon (Caleb), Brooke, Ava, and Mila.
Daughter of the late Elias and Martha Shacker; much loved sister of Edmond Shacker (Laura Boushey) and George Shacker(Georgette Homsi); predeceased by Olga (Sleiman Mattar), Nicholas Shacker, Wadad (Toufic Saikaley), Nahia (Joseph Assaf), Frank (Doreen Beshara) and Jawdat (Joe) Shacker. Marie will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marie was born in Kfarmishki, Lebanon, on November 22, 1932. At just 16 years old, she journeyed on her own to Canada, first living with relatives in Hanna, Alberta, and then settling in Ottawa in 1954. It was there she met Ben, and alongside building a beautiful family, together they brought Koyman Galleries to life. Ben and Marie celebrated an incredible 65 years of marriage until Ben passed in December 2023.
Marie will be remembered by all for her immense dedication to her family and friends, her beautiful smile, her constant laughter, and her love for life. She loved being around people, welcomed everyone with open arms, and was always a beacon of light in every room. She will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, July 20, 2025, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm at Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 11:00 am in St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral – 2975 Riverside Drive, Ottawa. – Burial to follow at Beechwood Cemetery.
