It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alexandre Taschereau on June 26, 2025, in Ottawa.

Predeceased by his wife of 60 years Denise Taschereau (1931-2020), he is survived by his daughters Alexia Taschereau (André Moncion) and Elisabeth Taschereau (Marc Labrosse) as well as his grandchildren Denis and Justin Moncion and Claudia and Caroline Labrosse. His brother and sister Robert and Jacqueline Taschereau as well as many nieces and nephews are also in mourning.

Alexandre was born on September 3, 1927 in St-Ludger, Beauce, Québec to parents Anita Lambert and Edmond Taschereau. After graduating from the University of Montréal in 1952 with a bachelor's degree in social sciences, he was posted to the Royal 22nd Regiment. After his studies, Alexandre enlisted in the NATO forces in Korea. While stationed at Canadian Forces Base Soest, Germany, in 1957, he met Denise Picard, the love of his life, whom he married on December 26, 1959 at the Citadelle of Québec.

After his valiant participation in the Korean War, he served in numerous postings, including with NATO in Germany and United Nations peacekeeping troops during the Belgian Congo crisis.

In 1969, the family moved to Ottawa where Alexandre and his wife were very active in many Francophone organizations such as the Association Canada France.

Alexandre was proudly awarded the Order of Military Merit at the officer level in 1973.  Upon his retirement from the Forces, after 33 years of service, he joined the Treasury Board Secretariat and ended his career at Justice Canada as Director of Official Languages.   He was also awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal on May 21, 2025 for his service in Korea.

Alexandre had a deep love for his family as a devoted husband to Denise and a constant and loving presence for his daughters whom he guided, advised and loved wholeheartedly. Alexandre had a deep attachment to the province of Québec. He remained constantly curious to learn new things through his friend the iPad in the recent years. He had a very keen interest in political commentary.

Family and friends are invited on Saturday, August 30 from 11 a.m. at the Hall of Colours of the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa. The funeral service will follow in Beechwood’s Sacred Space at 1 p.m.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Promenade retirement home in Orléans as well as the medical team at the Ottawa Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to one of the following charities: the Brother André Foundation in Montréal or the Canadian Cancer Society.
