It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Laurene Cullen peacefully at home in Ottawa at the age of 92 on September 24, 2022. Born in Westville, Nova Scotia she was predeceased by her parents Lawrence and Lydia (Higgins) MacQuarrie, her brother Herbert MacQuarrie, husband Sgt. George J.O. Cullen and son Lloyd Darrell (Buck) Cullen.
Mom was employed with Maritime Tel and Tel for 5 years as an operator before marrying the love of her life George and embarking on a military adventure that took her to France, Newfoundland, back to Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, before finally settling in Ottawa. Mom loved her curling both playing and watching. Mom also loved her hockey whether it was watching her Senators or her grandchildren. One of her passions was singing in the church choir, another was spending time with her friends that she had made over her many years curling, singing and working at the Bank of Montreal, but her biggest love was being part of our lives. She celebrated all the major milestones in all our lives with love and passion. Mom will dearly be remembered for her wit, humour, her generosity and her love of life.
Much loved mother of Kevin (Mary), Brian and Howard (Donna). She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Christopher, Otley, Giordanna, Travis (Liane), Katelyn, Dana (Matt), Tiffany and greatgrandchildren Vail, Breckin, Callen and Caden.
Special thanks to Dr. Jennifer Brodeur and the wonderful Palliative Care Team for making it possible for Mom to stay in the home she loved and leave this world as she always wanted.
Visitations will take place at the Beechwood National Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Ave., on Friday, October 7, 2022, from 1-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 8, 2022, 11:00 a.m. at Epiphany Anglican Church, 1290 Ogilvie Rd, Ottawa followed by the interment at Beechwood and a reception at the Church.
For those not able to attend Laurene's Funeral Service in person, her service may be viewed at the following livestreaming link https://www.facebook.com/EpiphanyACC.
In lieu of flowers, her memory would be best honoured by a donation to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, Shepard’s of Good Hope, or the Ottawa Humane Society.
“We lost our shining star, but heaven has gained an angel”. Always in our hearts.
Sending our deepest sympathies to Brian, Katelyn, Travis and family for the loss of Laureen. We're thinking of you at this difficult time.
