Peacefully on Saturday February 17, 2024 at the Arnprior District Hospital at the age of 89. Predeceased by his wife Doreen (née Marsh) in 2006, Laurie lived independently in his own home, keeping abreast of current events and health trends, reminiscing about days past and solving problems, especially those involving math. After a long and interesting career with Bell, Laurie was always keen to have a project in his retirement. He usually had several on the go, with more in the wings. Computer modifications were a constant source of delightful consternation. Genealogy research returned fascinating results and was a point of pride. His collection of “electronic parts just in case” was inspirational. Ever sharp, Laurie always had a plan or an idea he could share.

Laurie met his love, Doreen, as a very young man. They were married at 20 and 19 years old in 1955, while Laurie was completing his National Service with the RAF in Germany. There he developed a great love for the country and its people, healing some of the wounds left by his wartime childhood in London. Once demobilized, Laurie and Doreen were given the opportunity to migrate to Canada. They sailed across the Atlantic on the Queen Elizabeth in November 1957, with the intention of staying two years. Those two years became a lifetime, built together, with strong ties to family and friends in both the UK and Canada. They eventually settled in Ottawa to raise their 3 children; Elaine, Michael (Marni) and Allison (Dave) with love, humour and RAF inspired discipline. They delighted in their grandchildren; Rebecca (Aidan), Hayden, Elizabeth, Declan (Felix) and Brendan. Determined that the Trans-Atlantic families should know each other, they travelled regularly to see his sister Ruth (John), their parents, nieces, nephews and cousins. Between visits, news and pictures were shared to mark and celebrate the ups and downs of daily life. Laurie will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all the family and many friends both here and abroad. Many thanks to the HCCSS care providers, Mind Ourselves senior care, and staff at ADH for all the support. Friends are invited to attend Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood ave. for the urn interment on Monday May 13 at 11 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Laurie’s Life and reception at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre. Friends unable to attend in person are invited to join us via livestream (Please register here)

Blue skies, Mr. Gooddy. Thank you for being my second dad. And thank you for having a tent trailer to get us noisy kids out of the house for sleepovers. My many fond memories of childhood with Allison also include the whole Goody family. To Allison, Michael, and Elaine I offer my sincere condolences.

Mr and Mrs Gooddy were a big part of my childhood. I remember them both fondly. They were wonderful friends to my parents for 50+ years on Westpark. My heart is saddened but I know he’s in a better place with Mrs Gooddy. Hugs to Elaine, Mike, and Allison and to their families from my family and my dad. Brenda Young Anderson and Ken Young

We have many happy memories of Laurie. Laurie was one of Peters oldest school friends and we remained friends for over 70 years. As a family we looked forward to Lauries frequent visits to England in the 1960s /1970s when he regaled us with wonderful stories and picture shows - as Peters children we always wanted to see pictures of grizzly bears! Peter and I had three wonderful holidays with Laurie and Darren that I will never forget. We send our sincere condolences to Lauries close family and friends. Warmest regards Jean, Liz, Viv and Anna.
