Platthy, Klara (Karrie) Kornilia

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Aunt on May 15th, 2020 at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice, Ottawa. Karrie was born on August 27th, 1939, in Székesfehévár Hungary, to her late parents Maria (nee Péter) and Béla Platthy. She will always be loved and dearly missed by her nephews Peter (Leslie), Steve (Maria), Bob and the late Tom (Christine). She is survived by her brother Bill (Annette) and sister Maria (Peter) and was adored as great Aunt to Trevor, Natasha, Megan and Emma. Karrie immigrated to Canada in 1951 with her parents and siblings where she settled in a new life in Ottawa. Later she moved to Toronto and started a career as a Flight Attendant with Trans-Canada Airlines (TCA) which was eventually renamed Air Canada. She loved traveling around the world and meeting new people. She would tell us stories about skiing in the Alps, bathing in the sun and ocean in the Caribbean, learning how to use chopsticks in Asia. Her travel stories went on and on. Even in the early months of this year she loved going on the bus to the shopping malls or just for a drive around Ottawa.  Special thanks to all the staff at the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice for making Karrie’s last few days as comforting as possible. Due to Covid-19, the Beechwood Cemetery graveside service will be limited to 9 family members on May 25th. Visitation to Karrie’s burial site will be open to other family members and friends after 4:00pm.

Dearest Karrie, I am in shock to learn of your passing. You will forever live in my heart. I have searched for you over the years and had no idea you were back in Ottawa. My sweet sweet friend and dear sister in Christ. Now you will rest in the arms of your saviour Jesus. I am still in shock and can't find the right words to say goodbye.
