Joyce passed peacefully on the evening of 8 February, 2022 at the Ottawa General Hospital following a brief illness at the age of 92.

Born in London, England in March 1929 to Charles Mirams and Anne Ffoulkes, she grew up in a warm and close family through the turbulent years of the second world war with summers spent with her maternal grandparents in Llandudno, Wales.  Joyce emigrated to Toronto with her mother and brother David following the death of her father in 1947.

After several years in Toronto working for the Bank of Commerce she moved to Edmonton in search of adventure. There, at a military dance, she was introduced to Phil who was to become her husband for the next 64 years until his passing in 2020.

As a young military family Joyce, Phil and eventually their two sons Keith and Brian enjoyed a life of great variety and travel, including postings to Germany, both coasts of Canada, Alberta, Kansas and Ontario, culminating in a posting to Moscow in the Soviet Union in the early 1980s before settling back in Ottawa.

A quiet and private individual, Joyce liked nothing so much as cooking a sumptuous feast, whether for family, friends, or a social occasion for military or embassy.  She was also an accomplished seamstress, gardener and was a skilled amateur artist with pen, paint and ceramics.

Joyce was pre-deceased by her husband of 64 years Col. Phil Roy and is survived by her sons Keith (wife Lorna and sons Glenn and Evan), Brian (wife Kim and daughter Morgan); her brother  David (wife Bev, son Douglas and daughter Lynn) and Phil’s brother’s families: Don and Claire, Robert (deceased) and Lena and George and Evie.

A family service will be held at a later date with Joyce being laid to rest with Phil at the National Military Cemetery at Beechwood in Ottawa.
