Went to be with his Katie on the evening of December 12, 2021. He died peacefully, with his family by his side, in Ottawa, Ontario. John is survived by his children Kath, Stu (Ann Marie), Cliff (Grace), and Val (JP). He is predeceased by his son, John.
In his last days, he relished the chance to talk to all his grandchildren across Canada and witness the joy of his great grand children.
Having served 38 years, John retired from the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1986 and then enjoyed a brief second career at General Electric Canada. He retired to his dream home with Kay in Frankford, Ontario and enjoyed retirement there and in Belleville. His last years were spent living a wonderful life at the Stirling Park Retirement Home in Ottawa, Ontario. John’s passion for music was carried through many church choirs, the Quinte Men’s Gospel Chorus, and a choir at Stirling Park. He was an avid gardener, dog lover, and was famous for his hermit cookies. He loved fishing and the outdoors.
We are so grateful to the staff of Stirling Park for making him part of their family, especially Nissa Coghlan-Kerr, who brought joy to his life daily. John’s family are so thankful for the nurses from St. Elizabeth Home Health Care and Dr. Andrew Douglas, whose care allowed him to live his life on his own terms at home until his death.
John died as he lived, surrounded by love, music, prayers, and red wine. In his last days, he talked about taking one day at a time, how we were all in his heart, and the air force motto: Per Ardua Ad Astra - through adversity to the stars. He knew he was heading to the stars as he watched his last sunset.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Beechwood Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

We are deeply saddened by the news of Johnnie's passing - a mentor to me and a very warm, kind and dear friend to us both. We will miss him, but we are thankful that he has left us so many wonderful memories.
To Val and Stu and to all the Moors family, we send our heartfelt condolences.
A beloved father, friend, airman and much-admired leader has gone west.
His trumpet sounds no more.
A wonderful voice has been silenced . . . yet his great spirit endures.
In the Heavens a new choir has made its debut, and
With Kay by his side, the indomitable Johnnie Moors is now in splendid and eternal concert.

My Dear friends…Kay and Johnnie are together again. What great times we had in Penhold, North Bay and Trenton. Farewell until we meet again!

To all our cousins, we send our love and best wishes. We loved our Uncle Johnny and Aunt Kay and treasured the time we were able to spend with them. Where ever they went, they brought with them love and laughter. It is comforting to know that they are back together now, in the arms of their beloved father in heaven. Thank you John and Kay, for sharing your life with us.

My condolences to the Moors family. John was a good man and in the past few years we texted, chatted etc about our involvement in choral music and he was always complimentary of my bird pictures. I had the pleasure of attending his retirement dinner in Colorado Springs and looked at a picture from that event today. I was presenting him with a memento and got to kiss his bride. Ha! A kind gentle man who will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers to your family. My father, Peter, and I truly enjoyed interacting "Mr. Moors", our favorite referee (and one of the best ever at the craft) during our years of Basketball in North Bay, and will always remember those moments.
I am so sorry for your loss, Val. Your Dad seems truly wonderful. I hope the memories that you made with your Dad, especially over the past summer, will bring you some comfort and light during this very dark time. You and your family are in my thoughts.
