It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joanne Elaine Proulx, age 71, who died unexpectedly at her home in Ottawa on Friday, November 21, after facing several recent health challenges.
Joanne was a warm and generous person who dedicated her life to teaching. She spent many years as a primary school teacher, guiding her students with patience, kindness, and a genuine love for children. She led school choirs, encouraged young voices, and shared her deep love of music with her community. She also sang at many weddings—a thread of music woven throughout her life, including the day she met her husband, Denis.
After retiring, Joanne remained a caring and supportive presence for those around her. She made her home in the Alta Vista community for over forty years, where neighbourhood families and children often visited, brought drawings, or stopped by to chat. She lived with health challenges for many years, and she faced them with quiet strength.
She grew up surrounded by dogs and later shared her home with cherished cats. Joanne carried a quiet faith throughout her life.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Denis. Joanne leaves behind her son Jean-Stéphane (Sarah) and their newborn son, Alexandre; her son Dominique (Magda); and her brothers Richard and Pierre Lemieux.
Those who knew Joanne will remember her warmth, generosity, and gentle spirit. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
A memorial will be held on Sunday, Dec. 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa, followed by a reception.

I met Joanne in 1967 when we were in 7th grade and we became best friends. We kept in touch over the last 50 years, and thankfully, had a reunion a couple of years ago in Ottawa with Andre Albert, LiseTurpin, Nicole Joubarne (Aubin), Mary Kelly (Delorme), Francine Dupuis and Louise Poirier.
I am very sorry for the loss for Joanne's sons and her brothers Richard and Pierre.
Rest in peace my friend, knowing you will now be reunited with your husband Denis and your parents, helps me deal with your loss!

To my precious and deeply loved lifetime friend! I love you. Wherever you are now I will never ever forget our spiritual connectedness. We, the girls from Iris Street, met on a rock per chance one day. So special to have been at your side when your mother died, rocking you in my arms and crying together. So special you have been to me. You left an imprint JoJo. I will miss you always. To your boys Jean-Stephane and Dominque a kind caring mother, to your brothers a special unique sister...fly JoJo and may the angels in the sky herald songs of gratitude for who you've been.

What sad news this morning learning that my dear neighbour Joanne has passed. We had many years together, enjoying our gardens and our pets. She was the most gentle and caring person with her delicate personality. I send you a big hug, Stephane and Dominique, I'll remember her forever.

I knew and admired Joanne during several years at yoga classes. We had many meaningful conversations about so many things! Every once in a while from then on, we'd reconnect through emails. I was thinking about her the other day....maybe on the 21st when she said goodbye???
She was a lovely woman!
