Jenna Rhianna Mayes, born November 24, 1993, left us on October 27, 2022, too soon at the age of 28.  Jenna was a member of the Wikwemikong Unceded Territory.

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we announce that our sweet baby girl Jenna, has left us for the spirit world.

Loving daughter to Karen White-Pitawanakwat and Randy Mayes (partner Rey Chauret). Loving sister to Julianna Mayes and Randy Pitawanakwat (partner Paula Pelletier) and beloved aunt to Delilah Ewer-Mayes and Rory Pitawanakwat.  Loving stepdaughter of Richard Whissell. Loving granddaughter to Beulah Mayes. Beloved godchild and niece to Margaret E. Pitawanakwat. Granddaughter of the late Sandra Pitawanakwat. Great granddaughter of the late Angeline and Wilfred Kimewon.  Great granddaughter of the late Victoria and Philip Pitawanakwat.  Also, great granddaughter of the late Diane Mayes.

Beloved niece to Caldin Kimewon (partner Rachel George and family). Godchild to Edward (Pogo) Pitawanakwat. Jenna will be missed by her many great aunts and uncles and her many cousins and friends.

She had a special relationship in Ottawa with her extended family. She will be sadly missed by her special dear friend Alexandre (Alex) Smith who spent many years with her and loved her very much.

During her time in Ottawa, she loved spending time with her sister Julianna and niece Delilah Ewer-Mayes and especially her grandma Beulah. She was such a beautiful spirit and brought happiness to everyone.

Jenna’s smile would light up every room she went in and her sweet gentle voice will be remembered fondly and deep in our hearts.  Jenna had a passion for music and often shared songs she loved with her older brother.

Jenna loved long walks and going on adventures regardless of the time of year.  She loved being outdoors and felt at peace with nature with her favorite songs playing on her playlist or listening to the sounds of the birds and trees.

Her love for traditional ceremony and dancing Fancy Shawl was a true gift she offered to us all. She began learning to hoop dance. She and her mom made her hoops together.

Family, friends and supporters, may pay their respects at the Odawa Native Friendship Centre, located in the Rideau High School located at 815 St. Laurent Blvd, in Ottawa, ON, on Tuesday, November 1, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, for an informal gathering.  A welcome prayer and drumming will commence at 12:00 pm.

Food and snacks will be provided.

The family requests that donations in Jenna’s memory can be made to Tewegan Housing for Aboriginal Youth.
