It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Robert Withers on November 24, 2024, in Ottawa, Ontario, at the age of 93. James, known as Jim to his friends and family, lived a full and accomplished life defined by resilience, dedication, and love.

Born on June 14, 1931, Jim overcame a challenging youth to forge a successful career in Labour Relations at Canada Post, where he was known for his integrity and tenacity. Following his retirement, Jim and his beloved wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Ann (Bette) Boyd, embarked on numerous adventures abroad, creating cherished memories and strengthening their enduring bond.

Jim was predeceased by Bette, whose loss he felt deeply, and his sisters Barbara Lockheed and Shirley Withers. He is survived by his devoted children, Steven (Miriam Mas) and Denise, who brought him immense pride, and his grandchildren, Meaghan (Alex Paré) and Caitlin (David Caldwell), whom he adored. Jim’s legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Alaric and Maeve, who brought light and joy to his final years.

Though Jim often appeared reserved, those who knew him well understood the depth of his love and the strength of his loyalty. His life serves as a testament to hard work, perseverance, and the value of family.

Jim’s passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his strength, his achievements, and the countless memories he created with those he held dear.

A private service will be held to honor Jim’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in his memory.
