After a courageous battle with cancer, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Allan “Rodger” Parnell, on February 23, 2023, in Kemptville, Ontario; age 78. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Mabel Parnell and by his brother Michael (Sandra), Rodger will be deeply missed by his wife and soulmate Lise Parnell (Rozon) whom he spent 23 incredible years with. Rodger was a loving father to children, Ryan (Janelle), Colin (Julie), Erin (Jeff) and an adoring stepfather to Danielle (Jonathan) and Michelle. Grandpa Rodger also cherished his several grandchildren: Taryn, Evan, Kaylee, Katelyn, Hannah, Quinn, Olivier and Mathéo.

Rodger’s honourable career with the RCMP began in 1965 when he joined the Marine Division. He went on to complete 35 years of service, and various postings before settling and retiring in Ottawa. His working days were not quite behind him initially, choosing entrepreneurship with his buddy Carl. It was in 2010 when Rodger's love Lise retired, that adventure truly began. The two shared an unmistakable “joie de vivre” and would regularly travel and visit their many many friends and family whom Rodger also cherished dearly.

Rodger was a very giving, patient and kind person. While volunteering with Friends in Sports Fishing out of Long Island, he was able to share his tender nature and love for fishing.  He was a very active and fit guy who enjoyed skiing, cycling, hiking, camping, as well as cooking, fine wines and a good scotch! Rodger will be deeply missed but leaves behind his incredible strength in all his loved ones.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue), at a later date in the fall.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rodger’s memory can be made to The Irving Greenberg Cancer Center or to the Beth Donovan Hospice.

We were so lucky to have our buddy Rodg in our lives from our days together in the ‘hood’ in Blackburn Hamlet. They say you can’t pick your neighbours but we would have picked Rodger and Lise any day. We all had so much fun together and we will miss him forever.

We have so many great memories of Rodger and our times together with him, Lise and friends. We will remember his genuine kindness, his generosity, his sly sense of humour, his pride of workmanship in everything he crafted, his enthusiasm about Beaujolais Nouveau, and the way he always had of getting to the point of talking about what really matters in life. Most of all we’ll remember how he always expressed his happiness in having Lise, children and grandchildren in his life. He was a great positive force, and will be greatly missed. Thank you Rodger.
