Retired OC Transpo Operator # 597

Ted passed away peacefully in his sleep at St. Vincent Hospice in Ottawa on May 16, 2025, in his 78th year.  He is survived by his son Darren (Jennifer), and leaves behind his grandchildren Ryan and Jordan. He will also lovingly be remembered by his siblings Susan (Vince) of Winnipeg, MB, and Larry (Maureen) of Ottawa, as well as by his nieces and nephews Lindsay Tarvit (Adam), Jon Hendricks (Maria), Tracey DeLong and Don DeLong (Lindsay).

Ted was predeceased by his cherished wife Grace, his parents Harry and Jean (née Biehler), his sister-in-law Nancy DeLong and niece Kristina Hendricks. He will be forever remembered and deeply missed by many cousins on both the Biehler and Cunliffe sides of the family.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Ottawa General Hospital and St. Vincent Hospice for their compassionate care of Ted. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask you to consider a memorial donation to either the Ottawa Hospital Foundation or Hospice Care Ottawa.

Family and friends will celebrate Ted’s life at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa), on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 12 pm for Visitation prior to the Memorial Service at 1 p.m., followed by an Interment.

Words are so inadequate at the passing of a dear brother who shared our lives so closely. I (Sue) helped Ted deliver newspapers on the Mohawk Road in Ancaster and threw snowballs at each other on the walks home from church. He teased me endlessly but was always there for me. He and Grace were generous to a fault. His later years were difficult as his health declined and he became less inclined toward social celebrations but his heart of love beat ever strong right until the end.
Ever in our hearts,
Susan and Vince, Jonathon, Maria, Natalie and Alex.

Our family The Smith lived across the Street on Saunderson Drive, in the 1960's, I remember Ted and his buddy friends having cars and racing their cars around the neighborhood, laughing, partying out loud, our Dad was always threatening to call the police, but our Dad never did, on Ted Cunliiffe and his buddy pals partying!
I remember The nice, friendly Cunliiffe family was always known for their partying and socializing!

My heart felt Condolences, Sympathy goes out all of the Cunliiffe family and their relatives, comforting hugs to them all!

Not surprising that the career Ted chose kept him closely connected to a steering wheel. Growing up next door we were privy to his 'apprenticeship' as he and his friends honed their skills and tested out a variety of vehicles. I remember when my father decided to sell his car; which was of a style and probably vintage, much prized by Ted and his friends. They all wanted to buy it, so my Dad told them that he would sell it to whoever showed up first with the cash in hand. The race was on! I don't remember whether Ted actually won that race, but he and his friends certainly provided us with an entertaining afternoon. Condolences to the family.
