Herb passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025 at The May Court Hospice in Ottawa. He was 92.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ruth, and by his brothers Erik and Alex.

He leaves behind sisters Ruth Johnston (Earl) and Margaret Quinney (Bruce - deceased), and nephew Glenn Johnston.

He will be fondly remembered by his son Wayne, and daughters Julie and Sandra Harrington (Phil).

He was very proud of, and loved his six granddaughters Alyson, Erika, Shannon (John), Naomi, Zoe and Lily, and his great-granddaughters Olivia and Sophia.

He was born, raised and lived in Ottawa his whole life. He and Ruth were married in 1958. Together they shared a lifetime bond based on love, family and faith.

After working in the family painting business, Herb enjoyed a distinguished career in public service with the Federal Government.

Music and sports were his passion and he played the trumpet and he enjoyed singing many genres, including barbershop quartet. He was a longtime member of the Capital City Chorus.

Visitation will be held at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, with funeral service to follow at 1 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or to Hospice Care Ottawa - The May Court Hospice.

So sorry to hear about Uncle Herb. I have many fond memories of him and Aunt Ruth. He took me to watch the flag debate when I was in high school. Now he is with his true love.

Dear Linke Family:
I knew Herb when I was a member of St. John's and I was sorry to hear of his recent death. Ruth and Margie were girlhood friends of mine as well. I have good memories of the whole family even though contact was few and far between because of distance.
I pray God will bring all of you the comfort of your faith, family and friends at this sad time.
