Hector Aimé Gauthier, age 81, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025. He was born on April 30, 1944, in Hull, Québec.
Hector was predeceased by his parents: Jean-Baptiste Gauthier and Alice Larose; and his five brothers: Roland Gauthier, Jean-Paul Gauthier, Lionel Gauthier, Marcel Gauthier, and Rhéal Gauthier. He is survived by his wife Cecilia A. Amahorseja, his daughter Marie-Élyse Gauthier (mother: Louse Denis), and many nieces and nephews.
Hector lived a life defined by generosity, curiosity, and service to others. A man of many talents, he worked over the years as an electrician, a mechanic, a business owner, an insurance agent, a psychologist specializing in grief counseling, and a psychometrician focused on language assessment. Whether working with tools or with people, Hector brought care, precision, and deep compassion to everything he did.
A gifted builder who loved working with his hands, Hector built his own home in Cantley, a place that reflected both his craftsmanship and his independence. He took great joy in creating—building tables, shelves, and unique artistic pieces such as wooden placemats and potholders, stained glass, jewelry, clocks, and lamps. His hands were rarely still, and his creativity was matched by a practical ingenuity that benefited everyone around him.
Hector will be remembered as a generous, selfless, and loving man. He was compassionate and realistic, funny yet deeply poetic and philosophical. He had a rare gift for listening and understanding, and he never hesitated to come to the aid of anyone in his family or circle of friends who needed help, guidance, or comfort.
His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the wisdom he shared, and the objects he lovingly built—each one a quiet testament to a life lived with purpose and heart.
Family and friends are invited to Hector's Celebration of Life on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 from 1pm to 3pm at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, ON K1L 8A6.

It was a privilege to have worked with Hector for several years in his role as psychometrician and as a colleague. He was a true gentleman. He was calm, very smart, had a rich sense of humour, was practical, and creative… A true Taurean. My condolences to his family and friends.
