It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Greta Claire Hicks (Nee Mennie) who died peacefully on April 7, 2025, at the age of 78 years old. Daughter of the late Noella Sicard and the late Alley Mennie. Dear Mother of Leslie and Shawn (Fiona Conaty), Grandmother to Emily, Kayla and Tristan and a dear companion to Robert White. She will be greatly missed by her siblings: Evelyn (Jack Reid), Joyce (Francois Gendron), Donaline (late Ronald Desjardins), Gail (late Marcel Pomminville) and her many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She will reunite with her late siblings: Allen, Kathleen (late Rosario Devarennes), Pearl (Gaston Marinier), Donald, (Jeannine Lafortune), Gerald (Betty Mills), Gary and Carol in addition to both nieces Diane Lepage and Diane Mennie and nephew Richard Marinier.
Greta was very proud of her career as a civil servant with the Department of National Defence (DND) where she worked as an Administrative Assistant with the legal department of the office of the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Division until her retirement in 2010. During her retirement years she enjoyed traveling the world, attending concerts and plays as well as spending time with friends and family.
A heartfelt Thank you to the staff of the Ottawa Civic Hospital (5th floor) and staff of The Glebe Centre (1st and 4th floor) for their amazing compassion, caring and kindness towards Greta during her remaining time with us.
Per Greta`s wishes, cremation has already taken place. Friends and family are invited to pay respects at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave. in Ottawa Ontario on Tuesday May 6th, 2025, from 11:00am to 1pm. A Funeral will be held in the Sacred Space at 1pm followed by a reception from 2-4pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation be made in honour of Greta to either The Glebe Centre or the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada

The members of the Canadian Forces Supplementary Radio (SUPRAD) System Oldtimers Association were saddened by the news of Greta's passing. Whenever Bob and Greta attended social events at the CFS Leitrim All Ranks Mess, to visit with friends, it was always a pleasure to spend some enjoyable time with her. We sincerely thank Greta, for her years of dedicated and loyal service with the Department of National Defence (DND)working as an Administrative Assistant within the Directorate of the Judge Advocate General (JAG). Please know that as members of your extended military family, we will be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Our deepest sympathy to the family of Greta and to Bob White her long time friend and companion. We have known Greta for a number of years often attending functions together at the Warrant Officers, Sergeants and Chiefs Mess. Greta was always happy, approachable and friendly. Her ability to interact and to be sociable made her Pleasant to be near.
