Gaston Dubé passed away peacefully on 11 May 2025, in Ottawa surrounded by family who loved him and who he loved in turn while a guitar played his favourite music. Music was central to his life – he sang in several choirs and played the guitar. Family dinners and celebrations always included guitar playing and singing.
Gaston recently celebrated his 93rd birthday. Born in Saint-Onésime, QC to Adeline Beaulieu and Alexandre Dubé, he was the 19th of 20 children of a large Québec family. He is predeceased by Helen, the love of his life for 68 years. He is sadly missed by his children; Wayne, Colleen (Ben), Allan (Nada), his grandchildren Danielle, Christopher (Krystle), Sarah, Daniel, Simon, and his great-grandchildren, Kamryn and Kylie Shea. He is lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law Colleen Lundy (Gary Parker). He is also survived by his 101-year-old sister Annette, along with many nieces and nephews.
Gaston proudly served his country both in the Armed Forces (1949-1985) and later in Supply and Services (1985-1995). He had postings in France, the Netherlands, the Middle East, and Canada.
He was an avid reader of military history and was a follower of world news. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and brother-in-law. Gaston demonstrated what it meant to love deeply and to care for family.
The family expresses their gratitude to the 3rd floor staff at Timberwalk in Kanata who provided kind and professional care over the past year.
The celebration of life and graveside service for Gaston will be held at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre on June 7th from 11am to 1pm. Interment to follow in the National Military Cemetery.
