It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Etsegenet “Etse” Wolde, also affectionately known as Emi. She passed away peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital on July 25, 2024 with her family by her side.
Etse was a beloved wife of 47 years to Tadesse Gebre-Kidan and a loving mother to Girum (Samia), Helina (Simon), Nolawi (Maham), Kidist (William) and Yohannes (Betty). A caring grandmother to her seven grandkids, a sister adored by her many siblings and a special aunt to her many wonderful nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all in her family, many friends, former co-workers, and relatives.
She was the anchor of her large family, and nothing filled her heart more than preparing one of her famous homecooked meals for everyone to enjoy (always ‘from the scratch’). An avid sports fan, Etse loved boisterously cheering on her teams with her loving husband by her side, always quick to quip, "What can you do, bébé?" when her team lost.
Funeral mass will be held at St. Teklehaimanot Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, 915 Merivale Rd. on Tuesday, July 30 from 9 to 11am. Burial at noon at the Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services at 280 Beechwood Avenue, with reception to follow from 1 to 3pm.
