Erma was born to Wilmuir and Rose Jones (nee Cummings) in Thessalon, Northern Ontario, where she attended junior public school. She attended senior public school and Runnymede Collegiate in Western Toronto. She became a public school teacher and taught in Trenton and Lindsay before finding a position in Toronto where she specialized in senior and difficult classes. She earned a BA degree from Queen's University by taking summer courses. It was during her one year in residence in 1961/62 at Queen's that she met her future husband, Ernest Jury. They married at the end of 1962.
She became a very good mother raising two sons, David and Craig (deceased in 1974). In memory of Craig she created the Craig Jury Memorial Summer Studentship In Cancer Research Fund at Queen's University. After David left home to study in Toronto she undertook a course by mail and qualified as a Gemological Institute of America gemologist. She worked in the local jewellery industry at St. Laurent Shopping Centre for twelve years. In 'retirement' she became involved with the Engineer’s Wives Association ultimately negotiating and monitoring the transfer of bursary funds to local universities and college. Erma also continued to be a curious traveller and enjoyed the many trips she and Ernie took to places such as; the British Isles, Iceland and small ship cruising in the Arctic.
In summary Erma was a teacher, mother, gemologist and public spirited. In her own way a very determined individual. She will be greatly missed by her husband, son, David, daughter-in-law, Shirley, grandsons; Kevin and Mason and all who knew her.
The family would appreciate any donations go to the Queen’s University’s Craig Jury Memorial Summer Studentship in Cancer Research Fund. https://www.givetoqueens.ca/ermajury
