Dorothy Elsie Field

Dorothy passed away peacefully on May 31, 2022; she had celebrated her 101st birthday in January.  Born in Gault (Cambridge) Ontario she was the daughter of the late Sarah and Harry Monk.

Dorothy met her future husband Carl while working in administration at a local factory which produced equipment for the war effort, and they married when he returned from the war. With their two children, Carolyn and Stephen, the family moved to various Southern Ontario towns before settling in the Ottawa community of Manor Park. After Carl’s passing in 1971, Dorothy remained in the community working as an administrator at Manor Park Public School until her retirement. Family, friends, and community were always important to Dorothy. She spent many years volunteering in senior activities and was very involved with St. Columba and later St. Margaret’s Anglican Church. Of her many pastimes, from her love of reading to solving word games, none was more enjoyable than playing bridge in the company of her many dear friends. Her respectful and positive personality impressed all who met her. Dorothy later made her home at the New Edinburgh Retirement Residence, where she was very happy surrounded by old and new friends, under the care of wonderful nurses and staff.

Dorothy stayed close and connected with her late daughter Carolyn’s (Gerry) family in Alberta. She was a loving Nanna to Chris (Stephanie), Greg, Stephen (Lyndsay), and grandchildren Luc, Jillian, Natalie, Bennet, and Samantha. Through the years she kept in constant touch with her late sister Gwen (Don Johnston) and their three children in Southern Ontario.

Friends and family, please join us for a memorial gathering at Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa, on Friday, June 24, 2022, from 10:00 to 12:00. In lieu of flowers consider making a donation to St. Margaret’s Vanier Anglican Diocese of Ottawa.

Dorothy and I shared the school office at Manor Park School in the late 70's and into the 80's until her retirement. What a wonderful person she was. Not only was she very competent as an office administrator, she had a terrific rapport with students, staff and community, A lovely lady. Ross Maxwell
