David Gordon Handley
February 22, 1938 to January 30, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce our Dad’s passing, peacefully in his sleep following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Loving husband to his beloved wife Henrietta “Hannah” Handley (nee VanderWal) of almost 60 years. Exceptional Dad to his daughters Rachel Handley (Jamie Gullikson) and Lisa Handley-Luctkar (Ed Luctkar). Wonderful “Gpa” to Zachary Luctkar and Quinn Luctkar. Survived by cherished sister, Elizabeth “Beth” Handley. Predeceased by his parents Edith Elizabeth Handley (nee Smith) and John Albert Handley, brother John Graham and sister Margaret Ruth.
He will be greatly missed by nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends, most notably his honourary daughters Denise and Alison.
We grew up feeling loved and accepted, in a home where everyone was welcome regardless of ethnicity, beliefs or personal identity. Dad could talk for hours about anything and everything…from the state of the world, theology, history … to trimming a sail and tying a good knot. Dad had many interests over the years but was mostly happy to be home with his adoring Hannah, a good book in hand and a dog at his feet.
A celebration of Dad’s life will be held at Beechwood Cemetery on February 8th at 10:00 am, reception to follow.
