Asef Fekrat Heravi was a sagacious man of letters, savant, researcher, journalist, translator and poet. He passed away on 27 April 2022 at the age of 76 with his family by his side after a long battle with cancer.

Predeceased by his mother, Maryam Monshezadeh and Father Mirza Nazar M Khan. Asef Fekrat was survived by his wife Alieh Fekrat and his loving children Goharshad , Nushafarin , Shahrokh and Arash. He was an adoring grandfather to his grandchildren, Linda, Emily, Edna, Marcel and Martin. 

Asef Fekrat was born on 28 February 1947 into a well-known family in Herat- Afghanistan. Having lost his father (one of the famous and high- ranking employees of the state accountant in Herat municipality.) When he was only two years old, his mother raised him with the support of his grandfather, Munshi M Rahim khan, a well-known government scribe and his erudite and affectionate grandmother Masoumeh Begum.

After completing his pre-university schooling with honors in Herat, Asef Fekrat Moved to Kabul to pursue higher education in Kabul University. While still a university student he also worked at Radio Afghanistan and became a famous literacy program producer. He earned his B.A in Persian language and literature from Kabul University and later his M.A in journalism in India.

During his professional career, he held significant posts in radio, the press and Afghan Academy of Science.

Moving to Iran in 1981 in consequence of turmoil in Afghanistan, he was employed because of his erudition at the prestigious library of Astan Quds Razavi in Mashhad, Iran and became an academic member, author and editor of the Great Islamic Encyclopedia in Tehran, Iran. He authored over 30 books and wrote and published over hundred articles and research papers on history, Persian literature and poetry.

Asef Fekrat moved to Ottawa, Canada with his family in 2002. He continued working on history, literature, language and publishing his works.

He is gone but he lives on in the hearts of those who knew him and in his books and poems which future generations will read.
