Guided Tours of Beechwood Cemetery
Guided tours of Beechwood Cemetery are led by trained volunteers and highlight local history, notable individuals, and unique sections within this National Historic Site. The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours, is family friendly and follows a gentle walking pace. Tours are available in English and French.

Guided Tour Themes
Western Tour
Walking through the West half of Beechwood Cemetery is like walking through the history of early Canada. Tour attendees will hear familiar Ottawa street names and how these prominent families helped build the city. This tour visits some of the cemetery’s oldest sections, beautiful gardens, and the Mausoleum. Participants will also learn how a local community cemetery grew into Canada’s National Cemetery.
Eastern Tour
The eastern half of Beechwood Cemetery is rich with cultural and military history. Participants will visit some of the cemetery’s largest community sections and walk among the headstones of military, RCMP, Ottawa Police, and CSIS veterans.
This tour offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the unique features of Beechwood and the stories of lesser-known, but deeply influential, individuals who helped shape Canada.
Beechwood Bites – Bite-Sized Tours of the Cemetery
Beechwood Bites are short, themed guided tours through Beechwood, the National Cemetery of Canada. These specialized tours are for those who love a good theme and are passionate for learning about history.
Each tour lasts 45 to 60 minutes and explores a different theme within the cemetery.
