The Beechwood Cemetery Stroll is a guided historical tour through Beechwood, the National Cemetery of Canada. Tours are given on the last Sunday of each month, rain or shine, and begin at 10:30am.

The Beechwood Cemetery is too large to fit into one tour, therefore the tour has been divided into Western and Eastern portions.

Walking through the West half of Beechwood Cemetery is like walking through the history of early Canada. Tour attendees will hear familiar Ottawa street names and how these prominent families built Ottawa. The tour will visit the older sections of the property, the beautiful gardens, the Mausoleum and be given the opportunity to learn about how the local community cemetery grew into becoming Canada’s National Cemetery.

The Beechwood Cemetery Stroll is led by trained volunteers and focuses on local history and notable features and sections within this National Historic Site.

The tour is free of charge, and is family friendly.

The route for the Stroll is a gentle 1.5-2 hour walk and is wheelchair accessible.

Please wear good walking shoes, clothing suitable for the weather, apply bug spray and bring water if needed.

For the Eastern tour, your guide will meet you at the Chinese Pagoda which is the red wooden structure you see when you enter from the St. Laurent Ave (the complete opposite side of the property as the Beechwood National Memorial Centre).

Please note the Beechwood National Memorial Centre is closed to the public on Sundays, therefore please use the washroom before arrival.
