It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother Doreen Darby at the age of ninety on Saturday, Feb 21, 2026, at 7:51am. Mom was surrounded by loved ones present in both body and spirit.

Ninety years is more than most of us get, but never enough when it’s someone you love.

Mom suffered from dementia for over six years but remained cheerful and positive through it all.

She is survived by her loving husband Bill and her three children Donna, Donald and Douglas. Also left to mourn are her cherished and amazing grandchildren, Sara, Logan, Adam and Wade.

When the end came, it was very peaceful and mercifully quick. She was pain free, and there was no confusion. I think she had beautiful dreams the last few days before her passing; you could tell because she often had a smile on her face. Never one to have too much fuss made of her, or drag things out, she just slipped away.

A private family gathering has already taken place. However, we would love to invite you to a celebration of life on our front porch sometime later this summer. It was the place Doreen loved best, the place Bill built for her and she loved being out there.

We will post a date and time with more details once we have them.

I know Mom would love to see you there. 🩷

Master Gunner Darby did say that he was a better soldier because of Doreen. She obviously did great work, because Bill made a positive impact where ever he served. His talents were recognized throughout the Air Defence Community. Thank You Doreen.
