Lorna Simpson, age 88, passed away peacefully on February 4th in Ottawa, Ontario. Born September 30th, 1937, in Hamilton, Ontario, she was the first of three children to William and Myrtle Ormerod.
Lorna was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Douglas Simpson, whose partnership and devotion shaped her life; and by her sister and dearest friend, Loretta Ormerod. Their absence was always felt deeply, and she is now reunited with those she loved so fiercely.
Lorna is survived by her loving brother, William (Bill) and his wife Mary Ormerod, and by her cherished children, Scott and Lori, along with their spouses, Cindy and Geoff. Lorna was a devoted and loving grandmother to her three granddaughters, Emma, Jillian, and Justine, who brought her immense pride and joy, especially in her later years.
Lorna will be fondly remembered for her beautiful voice and her lifelong love of singing. Music was central to who she was, whether lifting her voice in church choirs or sharing harmony and friendship with the Capital Chordettes. Her gardens were another great passion—tended with care, patience, and pride.
Lorna was happiest when surrounded by family and friends and found joy orchestrating a room. She especially loved family and holiday gatherings with her nieces Holly, Heather, and nephew Billy. These moments—full of laughter, warmth, and love—are how she will be remembered most.
Lorna leaves behind a legacy of devotion, music, and family togetherness. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
