It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Edward Byers, who passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, in Ottawa, Ontario, at the age of 78.

Gordon was the beloved husband of Carmen Cournoyer Byers, and a devoted father to Kevin Byers and Allan Byers. He was a cherished father-in-law to Kristen Wilmot and a proud grandfather to Cole Byers and Nolan Byers. Gordon is also survived by his sister Jane Byers Ganim and her husband Michael Ganim, as well as extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.

Gordon will be remembered as a loyal, positive, kind, honest, intelligent, and determined person. His life was defined by service to others and a deep commitment to his community and faith. He volunteered as an elder at St. Andrew’s Church, where he spent many years visiting and supporting those going through difficult times. He also coached youth football, volunteered with Half Moon Bay Church, and hosted visiting Half Moon Bay ministers at the nearby family cottage.

Professionally, Gordon had a long and respected career in retail management, serving as a Regional Manager for Fairweather’s, a Manager for Zellers, and later working with the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB), where he continued to support and advocate for others.

Above all, Gordon was a family man who valued integrity, compassion, and connection. His steady presence, encouragement, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held January 10th at 11 a.m. at Saint-Andrew`s church (82 Kent Street, Ottawa).

We are sorry to hear of the loss of Gordon. He was an important person at Half Moon Bay and indeed The River. He contributed a lot to the quality of life in the Thousand Islands.
