It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Penelope (Pennie) Younger at the age of 86. She leaves behind, her devoted husband of 65 years and best friend, David, and her loving children Caroline, Jamie, and Charlie (Jodi). She is predeceased by her loving sister Ann and her parents Isobel & Guy Smith. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Robert (Erica), Emily (Brendan), Cailin (Zam), and Liam, and by her great-grandchildren Jack and Nelly. She will also be deeply missed by her sister Pam, her cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Born in Rye, New York, Pennie was the daughter of a diplomat and spent her youth in England, Trinidad, Italy, Cuba and the United States, collecting languages and friendships. Her happiest childhood days were summers in Tadoussac and Quebec where she met her greatest love, David.

A devoted wife, mother and home maker, Pennie was known for her warmth, generosity, and sense of fun. The "hostess with the mostest", she was famous for her beautifully prepared dinner parties, macaroni & cheese, and date squares. She loved playing tennis, bridge, and Scottish country dancing. She adored family time at McGregor Lake where she kayaked, walked in the woods, and fed her friendly ducks, all affectionally named Quackers.

Pennie was also deeply devoted to her community. For many years she volunteered with the choir at St. Bartholomew's Church, the IODE, a local retirement home, giving her time and energy to help others live with dignity, courage, and hope. She really enjoyed caring for other people's babies after her children grew up. Her compassion and quiet leadership left a lasting mark on everyone she served.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday October 25, 2025 at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church, 125 MacKay St, Ottawa, at 1 p.m. followed by reception at the Parish Hall. Interment will be held Monday October 27, 2025 at Beechwood Cemetery at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, St. Bartholemew’s Anglican Church or the charity of your choice will be appreciated.
