Passed away peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the age of 81. She was the daughter of the late Lucienne (née Ouimet) and the late Lucien Cayer. Beloved and cherished mother to her sons; Alain and Benoit.
She also leaves behind her brother Robert (late Louise Lacroix) and her sisters Jeanne (late Claude Lapalme) and Estelle (late Claude Lavergne), as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son Michel, her brothers André (Thérèse Génier), Maurice (Georgette Godard), Roger (late Monique Adam), and her sisters Simone (late Reynald Moss) and Liliane (Guy Lauzon).
An exceptional woman, passionate and devoted heart and soul to her work in order to generously support her family. She began her humble career as a cocktail waitress at the Nation Tavern in Casselman and as a part-time school bus driver for Matte Bus Lines in St-Albert. She then discovered her passion for the restaurant business, managing and/or operating several restaurants throughout the years, including; 417 Bus Terminal, Restauparc, and St-Hubert (St-Laurent). In the late 1990s, she took over and operated the Casse-Croute de la Fromagerie St-Albert, renowned for her delicious poutine sauce, a recipe for which will always remain a secret. She finally took a well deserved retirement in 2009, a few years before the great fire of the cheese factory in 2013.
Once retired, Madeleine enjoyed many travels and volunteered her time at the St-Albert community Corde-à-Linge.
The family would like to thank the staff at Villa St-Albert, The Ottawa Hospital – General Campus, and the transitional care units of West-End Villa and Bruyère Greystone for their excellent care.
Funeral mass will be held at St-Albert Roman Catholic Church, 123 Main Street, St. Albert, Ontario, on Friday, November 21, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a reception in her honour at the St. Albert Community Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation, Bruyère Health or the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
